I rusted this T, by spraying it pretty heavily with a 50/50 water vinegar solution. Then you lay something on it that will rust. I took thin layers of steel wool and spread them out, pretty much covering the T. I folded in the arms, then laid more steel wool down (for the back). I then rolled up the T and also laid down more steel wool. I wrapped it up in a towel and let it dry. Depending on saturation, it may take a couple of days. It is permanent, I have laundered this T. I love rust!
The applique is black fabric with a slight pattern and is machine washable
